General Atlantic Signs Major Lease
Global investment firm General Atlantic has signed a lease for more than 150,000 square feet across five floors at Related Companies’ planned 625 Madison Avenue tower.
The 53-story development is expected to open in 2029, with construction now beginning to move forward.
The lease represents a major commitment from one of the world’s leading investment firms and gives the project an anchor tenant as the development prepares to rise on Madison Avenue.
A New 684-Foot Manhattan Tower
The planned 684-foot tower will rise between East 58th and 59th streets in one of Manhattan’s most prominent shopping and business districts.
The site was previously home to Related Companies’ headquarters in the former Revlon building. Related later moved its headquarters to the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle, another major development associated with the company.
The tower is being designed by Foster + Partners and Gensler.
General Atlantic Plans to Expand
General Atlantic Chairman and CEO Bill Ford described the move as an investment in the firm’s long-term future.
The company currently operates from Park Avenue Plaza at 55 E. 52nd Street and plans to relocate to the new Madison Avenue tower.
Ford said the new headquarters will provide General Atlantic with additional room to expand for decades to come.
Related Once Considered a Much Taller Tower
The current project is considerably smaller than an earlier vision for the site.
In 2024, Related CEO Jeff Blau said the company was considering a skyscraper as tall as 1,200 feet, potentially featuring luxury condominiums, retail space and a hotel.
The final plan instead focuses on office space, reflecting strong demand for high-end commercial properties even as the market for luxury residential development has faced changing conditions.
A Strategic Shift Toward Premium Offices
Sources cited by The Post said the decision to prioritize offices reflects demand for highly advanced, premium-quality commercial space.
The project is located along one of Madison Avenue’s most prestigious stretches, surrounded by luxury retailers and major corporate tenants.
Blau said General Atlantic was precisely the type of prestigious and ambitious company Related had envisioned as an anchor tenant for the development.
A Major Step for 625 Madison
The General Atlantic lease marks an important milestone for a project that has been years in the making.
With construction now underway and an anchor tenant secured, 625 Madison Avenue is positioned to become a significant addition to Manhattan’s skyline when it opens in 2029.
